Best time to post in Australia/Method
What we measured, and what we refused to.
Two kinds of number appear on these pages and they are never mixed. Engagement hours are other people’s research, quoted as published with the sample size attached. The Australian timezone analysis is ours, and it is arithmetic you can check.

The uncomfortable part, first
We publish no Australian engagement figures of our own.
The obvious thing to build here was a benchmark from our own posting network. That would have been the one genuinely uncopyable thing on the page. We checked whether the data could support it. It cannot, for three reasons, and none of them is fixable by waiting.
There is no audience geography. The analytics we collect are view, like and comment counts. There is no country or region field anywhere in the schema, on any record. Nothing in it can establish that a single view came from Australia. More time would fix a small sample. This is a missing dimension, and no sample size solves it.
It is one platform. Every record carrying engagement data is YouTube. There is nothing at all for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn or Facebook, which are four of the five platforms people actually search for.
The accounts are not Australian. The network runs general-interest channels with international audiences. An Australian timing claim drawn from them would describe the wrong country.
There is a fourth problem worth naming because it is the one most likely to catch other people publishing this kind of page. Our posting times are chosen by an automated scheduler, so they cluster in a handful of hours rather than spreading across the clock, and engagement is captured at wildly different ages after publication. Under those conditions an hour-of-day comparison mostly measures how long a post has been up. It would produce a confident number and a wrong one.
So the honest version of this page cites other people’s engagement research openly and spends its own effort on the part nobody else does properly: the Australian timezone work.
What would change this
The bar we would have to clear.
We would publish a first-party figure when all four of these are true, and not before. If you ever see a number here without them, we have broken our own rule.

Engagement resolved to viewer country, from the platform's own analytics API. An Australian business posting to a global audience is not an Australian data point.

Enough separate Australian accounts that no single one can move a published number, with any cell too small to be anonymous suppressed rather than rounded.

Posting times that vary on purpose
Timing spread deliberately across the clock. A scheduler that always posts at the same hours cannot tell you what the other hours would have done.

Engagement measured at a fixed age
Every post compared at the same number of hours after publication. Otherwise the comparison measures post age, not timing.
Derived, and checkable
The timezone arithmetic.
Two inputs: the UTC offset of each state, and how many people live there. Population is Australian Bureau of Statistics estimated resident population at 31 December 2025, released 18 June 2026. National total 27,801 thousand, which includes Other Territories, so the states below do not sum exactly to it.

67.4% of Australians move their clocks in October. 32.6% do not. That is the whole reason a schedule set in winter stops being right in summer, and it is why Queensland and New South Wales, on the same clock for half the year, sit an hour apart for the other half.
From there the calculation is simple. For a given hour on an eastern clock, work out what every other state’s clock reads at that same instant, then add up the population whose local reading falls inside the band the publisher identified as strongest. An hour that covers everybody is a nationwide window. Where no hour covers everybody, we say so rather than pretending a best compromise is a solution.
The bands themselves are the publishers’, not ours, and we quote them as stated. We do not adjust, re-weight or reinterpret their engagement numbers. The only thing we add is the geography.
One judgement call is worth stating outright, because it moves the answer. A band written as “6am to 11am” could mean the six slots from 6am to 11am, or the five from 6am to 10am. We take the narrower reading and exclude the closing hour. That makes every window on these pages a window that holds under either interpretation, at the cost of sometimes recommending an hour less than we could have. Widen it yourself if you read the band the other way.
